Question for Freda Chorlton

Started by: Murrayfind1 (1)

Firstly, Thankyou so much for your work indexing the Hindley Cemetery graves.

However, may I point out a possible typo? This concerns my husband’s Grandmother Jane Taylor, of 3 Liverpool Road, wife of John, who died on 31st October 1931, aged 36, and is listed on the index as CC8-172 but is actually on CC8-72. To explain further, there is a War veteran buried at CC8 - 172 and the name Taylor is visible on a flower urn at CC8-72 though no other inscription so it is assumed that this is ‘our’ Jane.

Kind regards

Yvonne Hardwick

Freda did a very good job and I have found graves of relatives and people I knew using the information and a map of the cemetery.

There as not been a typo , you are reading the index wrong
Jane is buried CC8 -172 Church of England Ground , she is buried along with her sister Gertrude who married Janes husband after Janes death and Gertrude appears to have died in child birth as there is a still born child with her
The soldiers grave you refer to is CC8 - 172 in the Non Conformist Ground, the urn you saw with the name Taylor CC8 -72 probably refers to the Taylor family in CC8- 72 Non Conformist Ground

Take note the dates given are the date they were buried not the day they died.

phildog you are quite correct the plans do not show A7 , it may be that it looks like 7 in the original register but may in fact be A1?? . if you are intending going to the cemetery I suggest you check A1. (worth a try,) all being well I am going to the Museum tomorrow and I will have at look at the original entry

phildog I have had a look at the original cemetery register and the grave number for Alice is in fact C7-162 but I can see why it as been misread as A (the actual registers are very confusing )
